I was privileged to have been amongst one of so many generations of young people growing up in Norwich to have been taught by Miss Manthorp and to thus still cherish countless anecdotes and fond memories of her dance lessons to this day. She was a truly empowered and also very caring woman, and she left every one of her pupils with a clear understanding of her excellent philosophy that knowing is not enough, doing is what counts. So sad to say farewell, and sending love and strength to Diana and all the family.

Thank you Miss Manthorp. I have so many memories of ballet with you on Newmarket Road, a place I often dream about still. From 1982 (age two) until I was 14 years old. Very pleased your adopted family has set up this page. With my best wishes, Leah, and my Mum Lilian.

With great respect and happy memories of Beryl who was a friend of my parents, Anne and Walter Manthorpe, and often walked round to visit them and have tea. Co-incidentally, Beryl was also a friend of some relatives of my husband, the Trigg family who lived in Saffron Walden.

I have many fond and lasting memories of playing for ballet classes at the Guildhall School on Newmarket Rd in the 1990s and remember well Beryl's dedication to teaching dance, as well as to looking after her beloved dogs. (They occasionally wanted to join in, much to everyone's amusement!) I am very grateful for the opportunities she gave me in that period, as this helped lay the foundations for my career as a dance accompanist in London. Also worth mentioning the book Beryl wrote about her experiences during World War 2: a fascinating insight into her early adult life and that specific period of British history. A most remarkable lady.

Although I never had dance lessons, I learnt so much about dance from Beryl, the dedication required and the pleasure to be had. A remarkable lady whose teaching will be remembered by so many.
