David: a man to whom I could look up, not only physically, but as a person. David, the way you faced and have sought to overcome so many traumas, employment-wise, health-wise, family-wise, over a number of years, has inspired me. Despite these you have retained your great dry sense of humour, carried on working way past 'retirement age', kept active as far you have been able and gone on loving and caring for those closest to you, even and especially so in the hardest of times. I have felt privileged to have known you and, through your sister, my late wife, Pat, to be part of your family and to have had you as part of my own life. I believe that each of us makes an impact upon not only those who are closest to us but the whole of life and creation. Your impact has been for good, far beyond of what you have been aware, and will continue in many unexpected ways - at least it will for me. You have not lived in vain and your true essence will live on both in those whom you have influence
