In loving memory of dear Uncle Derek. He was always so kind, funny, brave. positive and was rightly very proud of his family. He loved life, his laughter would fill the room and when Dad was in the room too they would somehow become more alike! He'll be much missed. Kayte, Paul & Em xxx

I met Derek and twin brother Donald at Byron Court School North Wembley in September 1946 on our first day at school. Just days before my family had moved from Swansea, Wales to North Wembley. We instantly become friends. I remember his father a big strapping Police Officer giving us all a ride to school in a Police Car. Unfortunately Mr Archer died leaving his wife to raise two lively lads, she worked hard and was much respected in the community for her friendly manner and exceptional patience. We sang in the local St Cuthberts Church Boys choir and were paid 13 Shillings a quarter and two Shillings for a wedding! Some of this money was spent at Prangleys the sweet shop directly opposite where Annie Moir lived.
As teenagers we camped inWales, Spain and at the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans. Derek and I both loved photography. No visit to the UK was complete without a visit to a Pub or National Trust Property. Annie and his boys were the love of his life. RIP Dear Friend. Wales Forever!

My sympathies, condolences and best wishes to Derek's family.
I have great memories of Derek, particularly so in the family, as opposed to work, environment.
We were both section engineers at Bromford. Derek was in charge of the Tame viaduct section and I was in charge of deck finishing, including the joints. It is to our joint memory that everyone driving along the M6 past the Fort Dunlop building feels a very small bump every 50 feet!
We were also together in Zahedan and went as two families to Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India over the New Year 1997/98. What memories that brings back, delayed in Karachi for New Year, Aerogrot to Colombo, tea plantation in Matale, Madras with very hot poppadoms, beautiful Taj Mahal, and waiting for PanAm 001 to take off from Delhi taking children back to boarding school. All accompanied by Derek's laughter.
I wonder whether Virginia Wade remembers interrupting her serve in Johannesburg to say "Bless You" to Derek's very loud sneeze?
A life well lived
