Amyloidosis is a rare and incurable disease caused by the build-up of abnormal protein fibres (or ‘fibrils’) in tissues and organs throughout the body, interfering with their function. Almost any organ can be affected, so the symptoms vary greatly and diagnosis can be very difficult. Research and development of new treatments for amyloidosis in the National Amyloidosis Centre have made enormous contributions to understanding of the disease and to improved outcomes for patients. All donations are received with sincere gratitude and used specifically for research.
