Alan Alderson-Smith

Died on 17 January 2026.

Alan was born in Burnley, Lancashire, on 30 September 1950. He went on to become a film entrepreneur, with an encylopedic knowledge of film, who developed a number of venues such as Lings Forum, Northampton, the development of broader arts events in Luton and Head of Film at Phoenix Arts in Leicester before becoming a freelance film consultant and programmer.  In addition, Alan had an ecletic knowledge of, and commitment to, the visual arts, music and the literary world and delighted in writing fiction, poetry and scripts. His character was an endearing combination of intelligence, charm and passion and therefore a marvellous husband to Stephanie, devoted Dad to two brilliant daughters - Molly and Nicky - and Grandad to Frank, Ella and Delilah. Good friend to Louise, Titus and Claire, as well as colleagues Loraine, Sue, Dave and Linda . Forty-three years a fighter and survivor of cancer! Carry on Alan!
