AfriCat UK is a registered charity whose vision statement is "Conservation, Education and Community Enhancement". We predominantly support and raise awareness of the AfriCat Foundation (a registered Namibian not for profit organisation).

AfriCat Foundation HQ is based at Okonjima www.okonjima.com, a private, 200km² nature reserve, 50 kilometers south of Otjiwarongo in central Namibia, and the AfriCat North base borders, western Etosha National Park. The AfriCat Foundation was founded in the early 90's and formally registered as a non-profit organisation in August 1993.

AfriCat has since grown significantly and what started out primarily as a welfare organisation has over the years identified the need to include a focus on child and adult education and research as being essential to accomplishing our mission - the long-term conservation of Namibia's large carnivores and the enhancement of the surrounding communities.  less

Cerebral (symptomatic) ALD is the most severe form of the disease where people become fully dependent and for some children and adults this condition can be life-limiting. Although less severe, some men and women with the faulty ABCD1 gene go on to develop AMN.  less

Our aim as a charity is to help as many children as we can to improve their reading and so enable them to achieve success in later education and confidently meet the challenges of adult life that follow.

ABC to read believes that children who have poor reading skills benefit enormously from individual attention whether this is from a mentor or parent. Talking and listening to children is important because this provides a nurturing environment within which children develop skills essential to learning to read.

ABC to read can help in two ways :
1.By providing volunteer reading mentors who will motivate, raise self esteem and help each child they work with enjoy reading. Our volunteers bring along their own box of books and games. ABC to read support the volunteers by offering them regular training and support from field workers. As well as finding volunteers we can train parent helpers already in school.

Association of Young People with ME (AYME)

The Association of Young People with ME is a small national charity, which helps and supports young people living with Myalgic Encephalopathy/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS).

ME/CFS is a debilitating, often painful and isolating condition with many complex symptoms. It is a recognised medical condition, yet the cause is unknown. Approximately, 250,000 people are affected by ME/CFS in the UK, and at least 25,000 are children and young people.

Diagnosing ME/CFS as early as possible can greatly improve the chances of recovery. However a lack of knowledge, understanding, awareness and shortage of NHS services causes delay and increases the risk of it spiralling into a long-term chronic condition.

The illness can often last from months to several years with symptoms varying from person to person. They can fluctuate daily, and are severely disabling.

Our charity was formed in the early 1970's to rehome Boxer dogs. We are independent from any breed club or any other rescue organisation. Our charity exists to alleviate suffering and distress to dogs, and in particular to the breed known as Boxers. Boxers come to us for a variety of reasons including a breakdown in marriages or partnerships, the death or illness of the owner, or other changes in family circumstances. Some dogs have been abused or neglected, and some are simply no longer wanted. All of our dogs are given a health check by our Vet and where necessary veterinary treatment is provided, all of our dogs are fully vaccinated, neutered and microchiped before being settled into a new and loving home which has been previously checked by us and found to be suitable. Our goal is to quickly find our dogs new and happy homes where they will be wanted and loved. Please support Boxer Rescue Service (Southern) to enable us to rehome Boxer dogs into new and loving homes.  less

Across the world, we provide emergency supplies and medical assistance to people in desperate need as a result of conflict or natural disasters. In the UK, we help vulnerable people by providing medical equipment, transport and care in the home. We train people in life-saving first aid skills and our volunteers provide vital back up to the emergency services whenever a disaster – such as a fire, train crash or flood – occurs.

The aim of Counting Hope is to empower the people/citizens/residents in parts of the world that the charity trustees have identified as having a lack of vital education and resources in order to succeed in life and contribute to the local economy, for the public benefit and where the citizens would like to work with to achieve these aims and become independent. Some of the ways we seek to empower people are: providing educational resources and funding to improve existing educational facilities and the current standard of teaching, helping to ensure safe environments to work and learn, also teaching skills required to be self-sufficient - avoiding deterioration of circumstances in the future. Where appropriate, we will also look at ways to reuse, recycle and conserve energy with the view of protecting the environment and benefitting communities that we work with, including those in the UK.  less

1. Making cycling accessible for disabled people and the carers
2. Using cycling to improve health – both physical and mental.

The Home takes in unwanted animals (principally dogs, cats and small domestic animals) from the general public in Essex normally via the RSPCA branches and animal homes in London where demand always exceeds capacity. In addition it takes in animals from RSPCA inspectors - these animals are normally the subject of cruelty cases and are often in a very poor condition. We also take in strays normally via Braintree District Council, on the rare occasions spare capacity arises animals (mainly dogs) will be taken from other areas of the country where homes can rarely meet demand.
The home then provides a temporary refuge for these animals, where they are assessed, treated by our vets, cared and nursed by our staff and volunteers and then the vast majority are rehomed.  less

As a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), we attend many different incidents including road traffic collisions, horse riding accidents, sporting injuries and medical emergencies such as cardiac arrests.

Our dedicated paramedics, doctors and pilots work together to provide advanced clinical care to patients at the scene of the accident, before flying them to the most suitable hospital.

The speed of the helicopter means we can fly our patients to the hospital best equipped to treat their injuries, rather than to the nearest hospital which may not have specialist treatment available.

Flying out of East Midlands Airport we attend an average of three rescue missions every single day with the capability to attend even more should the need arise.

Each rescue mission costs an average of £1,400  less

Farms for City Children was founded in 1976 by Michael and Clare Morpurgo in order to give urban children from all over the country, a unique opportunity to live and work together for a week at a time on a real farm, in the heart of the countryside. Forty years on, Farms for City Children is still providing an intense ‘learning through doing’ experience of a different life for children who may not know where their food comes from and have limited opportunities to explore the outside world. Since 1976, over 80,000 children have spent a week at one of the three farms - one in Devon, one in Wales and one in Gloucestershire – and they continue to welcome nearly 3,250 8-11 year old, primary school children every year from towns and cities across the UK.

Over the years, the formula has changed very little. Simply, children are involved in everything necessary to keep the farms going. They learn hands-on where their food comes from, the importance of caring for animals and the land, and the  less

Since 1965 Fight for Sight has raised funds to support medical research into a wide-range of eye conditions. These include macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy as well as the causes of childhood blindness. Fight for Sight also funds research into a large number of rare eye diseases. The charity is the largest in the UK dedicated to funding eye research.
Researchers that are funded are based at academic institutions and hospitals across the UK and may be conducting research either in the UK or overseas. Each year Fight for Sight invites applications for research grants. These can be for up to 5 years. The charity receives around 90 applications a year and is able to fund 15-20% of these applications. In order to decide which applications to fund, Fight for Sight undertakes a rigorous process of peer review and applications are assessed by the charity’s own scientific panel and also by international leaders in the relevant fields.  less

Mission

forCrohns mission is to fund research that helps those with the condition today and contributes to finding a cure for Crohn’s disease in the future whilst making more people in the UK aware of the disease and its symptoms.

How will we achieve our mission?

Our team of unpaid volunteers (including those with Crohn’s) will create a range of events and activities that raise funds for the charity.
We will invest the charity’s funds in a wide variety of research into the disease including (but not limited to) investigations leading to a greater understanding of the condition, diagnosis, symptoms, treatments, psychological impact etc.
Through our events, activities and a range of media channels we will publicise our research and educate people about the disease and its symptoms so that they understand more about the condition should they ever be asked for help by a sufferer  less
