Passed away peacefully on 23 February 2025, aged 91 years.
Hazel Ruth Usher peacefully passed away on the 23rd February 2025 aged 91 at her home in Delabole Cornwall. Originally from Hampshire, much loved Mum of Malcolm, Mother-In-Law of Karen and adoring Nanny to Granddaughter Kerry. Hazel will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
The family would be pleased for you to join them after the funeral service for a cup of tea and a slice of cake at The White Hart Inn, North Road, St Teath, Bodmin, PL30 3JX from 15:30.
The family would prefer donations in memory if desired, to Breast Cancer UK and Breast Cancer Now, in honour of Hazel’s strength in the challenges she faced with her own diagnosis.
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women in the UK, but it also affects men too. Every year, around 56,000 people in the UK receive a breast cancer diagnosis and at least 30% are preventable.
Breast Cancer UK are driving prevention to bring the number of cases down, using education, campaigning, fundraising and cutting edge, science-based, animal free research to make this happen.
Breast Cancer Now are also a research and support charity, who are dedicated to providing trustworthy, evidence-based information about breast cancer, from its signs and symptoms, to supporting those diagnosed, undergoing treatment, or living with the diagnosis and survivorship. Over 600,000 people live with and beyond breast cancer, and the charity is there for them and their loved ones, every step of the way, offering a range of support services, plus world-class research.
Any donations in Hazel’s memory will help continue the vital work of these two charities, offering support to others who are affected by breast cancer, just as Hazel showed so much resilience in her own battle.

Hazel , My dearest friend of 86 years , we met on my first day at Denmead school you were 5 and I was 4 and a half,
You took my hand and we were friends from then on through all our school years and through the 2nd World War we remained firm friends .
Eventually miles separated us but on Sunday mornings (usually) we phoned each other and spent hours catching up on all our news especially about our families and precious granddaughters,
What she was cooking for lunch, What cakes she'd made that week, she was a wonderful cook. and everyone appreciated her cooking, Hazel always said to me " I'll teach you to make a cake one day " but sadly that day never came .
I will miss you so much my Darling especially our Sunday morning natter and the laughs we had on the phone.

Hazel was a warm, kind, caring and generous lady. Always well dressed with a cheery smile and a cheeky story to tell. We were lucky enough to sample many delicious meals and baked treats, she certainly liked to feed us well. Originally a good friend of my Mum and Dad, Doreen and Pete and I know they shared many happy trips out together over the years.
We feel privileged to have called her our friend and we will miss seeing her on our visits to Cornwall. Rest peacefully lovely lady, we shall miss you ❤️ xxx
