Instead of donations of flowers for my Dads funeral we thought everyone might like to donate to two charities that benefited and helped my Dad greatly. These two charities can only be described as truly amazing and we would like to support them so that they can continue helping people like my Dad.
Dementia adventure enables people with dementia and their carers to go away on adventurous holidays whereas it would otherwise be very difficult or impossible for them to do so. They believe on treating people as an individual and focussing on what they can do not what they can’t. Dad and Sarah greatly enjoyed these holidays. They went on walking holidays in the lake district, a coastal holiday in Devon and probably the most adventurous was when they spent a week on a Thames barge. Dad enjoyed helping out with all the chores on the barge, he especially liked being at the helm
Dad started volunteering every Wednesday at Bath city farm just a couple of years after moving to Bath. Its a beautiful farm, with amazing views over Bath, set up as a charity for the whole
community to benefit from and enjoy. Dad used to help with many different jobs around the farm including weeding, potting up plants in the poly-tunnel, hedge laying and composting. Once Dad had been diagnosed the farm supported him greatly so that he could continue volunteering, which was great as the farm gave him a real sense of purpose. Sarah described the people that Dad volunteered with as ‘one big happy family!’
Sarah now enjoys volunteering at the farm.
They have very kindly said that they will plant a tree at the farm in Dads memory
