I used to live in the same close as Mary and got to know her a little when I saw her out and about the neighbourhood. I didn't get to know Mary in great depth as she was a private & independent person but when I moved away I continued to keep in contact with her through exchanging letters. Despite having suffered with a stroke/s in the past Mary always pushed herself to walk with her walker into town on a daily basis in all weather conditions for fresh air and exercise. I truly admired her for this as she clearly looked as though she was struggling with walking but still pushed herself. I will remember her as always appearing happy, where many people who had suffered like she had would likely give up on life, but she did not. Mary was perceived as a happy-go-lucky lady and I was always greeted with a warm smile whenever I saw her and her face would light up! I am proud to say that she was not only a neighbour but my friend too. She will be sadly missed but remembered always by me.
