I've only had the great pleasure of playing tennis with John relatively recently compared with many, but playing with him was always a pleasurable experience. He displayed constant good humour and kindness to everyone both on and off court -especially those of a lesser ability. We will miss his supply of Toblerone and Fudge too!

Uncle John or Father Christmas as my kids would call him! he always knew how to crack a good joke, that good, my son Kai always wanted to be prepared with some ready to fire back at him round the dinner table at Christmas. John taught us how to play tennis, badminton and a bit of golf which was always difficult as he had left hand clubs! We have all been a keen sporting family and I now pass on the skills I learnt with John to both my kids. My husband and I later this year will be participating in various challenges: my husband will be doing the Iron Man and Ride 100 and myself two half marathons and a 10k challenge to raise more cash for cancer research. John will be sadly missed by all the family. Johns Niece Fiona - 26/03/18

John was my brother. Like all families we had our ups and downs but on the whole we got along fine. Being the sportsman that he was, taught me how to play football/cricket/tennis as a child which stood me in good stead for later in life - being in - where I worked - the Ladies football team. . He was also concerned about the environment and animal welfare. He has left in his will contributions for various charities including cancer research which was to become significant later in life.

Enjoyed many years of playing golf with him. A kind man, just wish he hadn't taken so much of my money at golf.

John taught me how to play football and golf from an early age - I now teach my own son football all down to John.
I remember him always happy and delighted in telling jokes and making people laugh, and his care in wildlife and his beloved cats.
He will be greatly missed by us all.

I will always remember Uncle John's upbeat and lighthearted approach to life. In our last conversion he was excited to hear about my upcoming running races and has always inspired me to partake in challenging sports activities. He used to teach us badminton and tennis in the garden when we were kids which was always fun. And in his later years it was endearing to see his love for animals, especially his cats.
