Locomotive 6201 Princess Elizabeth Society

Learn more about us

Welcome to the home of Locomotive 6201 Princess Elizabeth Society. We are the proud custodians of the only surviving prototype Stanier 4-6-2 – LMS Princess Royal Class No. 6201 “Princess Elizabeth”. The locomotive is named after the eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, The Duke subsequently became King George VI and his daughter followed him on the throne as our much- loved sovereign, Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and the locomotive 6201 is affectionately known as “Lizzie”.

6201 Princess Elizabeth was saved from being scrapped by British Rail by the society who formed specially to buy the locomotive and preserve it for future generations. After restoration and the lifting of the steam ban in the 1970s, 6201 Princess Elizabeth returned to the mainline again hauling specially organised charter tours all over the country.

* Gift Aid, if applicable, will be collected on completion of registration with Memory Giving.
