Nigel was genuinely one of a kind! His ability to read a room, find a way forward in the middle of a difficult negotiation, but still relate to each person separately in a personal way, was unique. He was somehow able to represent bigger interests, while remaining entirely himself, without becoming a soulless automaton. He is the only colleague I have worked with who was not fazed by the idea of lunch with a young baby!!(?!). What a giggle. What a wonderful person, such a rich character, and yes, my life is definitely richer for having known Nigel. He will be missed by us all at ITU, where he made many contributions to and participated actively in our meetings. Our cafeteria will be duller without you! But I am glad you are free from pain. Sorry we can't be with you to share a hug and memories in person. We miss Nigel enormously after so many years of friendship and time spent together overseas and at home. Nigel was one of the best: unfailingly kind, genuinely interested in others and generous, with a great sense of humour and a sunny outlook. He also leaves a huge legacy, professionally and in the many lives he touched. We like to think of the young scouts having fun and adventures with the money raised and feel sure Nigel would approve. GAC Support Team (ICANN)

The passing of Nigel is a great loss to the Support Team of ICANN's Governmental Advisory Committee. To each of us, he was a highly regarded leader, colleague and friend. His spirit will remain: his professionalism and passion will continue to fuel our dedication; his counsel will endure in how the GAC conducts its work, how we support it, and how its Communiqué will be drafted at every ICANN meeting. His conduct was exemplary, not least in how he endured and bore his disease and the effects of its treatment, with the utmost integrity, grace and humor. Cancer did not get the best of him. In fact, it revealed it all the more so. It is in the deepest respectful memory of his character and life, that we seek to contribute to the understanding of cancer, to its prevention, to its cure, to the support of patients and their families, and to the distinctive efforts of Cancer UK. May Nigel rest in peace knowing he will be fondly remembered as a good man, who had an impact on the world.

I have many fond memories, including bumping into him a few times while he was on his hikes, even once just down from the Highgate parklands walk near my house in London.
