Birmingham Dogs Home has been caring for lost and homeless dogs across the West Midlands region since 1892. Unlike other centres, we do not selectively take those dogs which will be most easily rehomed: we accept all dogs in need. In practice this means more than half of the dogs we receive are strays or have suffered from some form of neglect or abuse. We now care for more than 1,600 dogs each year, rehoming or reuniting almost all, no matter how long their rehabilitation takes. With the cost-of-living crisis now upon us and a difficult winter ahead, the dogs being brought to us by dog wardens from across the region or by owners who can no longer cope, our kennels are now full of a uniquely vulnerable generation of dogs. We do not receive any government funding and our charity is entirely reliant on the kindness and generosity of local dog lovers and supporters to operate.
